Fogo Island Inn is on an island, off an island, at one of the four corners of the Earth. Situated along Iceberg Alley, all 29 rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto the most powerful ocean on the planet. The Inn delivers genuine, place-specific hospitality in a stark, unforgiving wilderness. Furnished with handmade quiet luxuries, it serves as a refuge from the numbing uniformity of modern times. Fogo Island’s still-wild world has caribou to track, wild berries to pick, nature trails to explore, and birds and sea life to behold.
The islands off Newfoundland have an independent spirit and a deep-rooted culture, and Fogo Island embodies both. This lodge is not only owned by a charity that benefits the local community, it was also designed by Newfoundland-born architect Todd Saunders to draw out modern elements of centuries-old outport architecture. Fogo Island Inn is a 100% social business and a community asset. There is no private gain; all operating surpluses are reinvested in the initiatives of Shorefast, a registered Canadian charity dedicated to building economic and cultural resilience on Fogo Island.
Claiming there are seven seasons is a bold statement, yet on Fogo Island, each season provides a different perspective for getting to know the place, and perhaps even yourself. Fogo Island’s seasons consist of warm summers, snowy winters, a spectacular ice season, hopeful spring, trap berth season, the world’s best berry picking in the early fall, and a stormy and emotional late autumn. Guests can exhilarate in outdoor adventure via snowshoe or snowmobile on a winter cabin outing; observe the ebb and flow of magical, sparkling pack ice in March and pursue ancient icebergs on the North Atlantic in May and June; take to the hills to pick berries by the bucket-full and attend the annual Partridgeberry Harvest Festival in the fall; and be the first in North America to welcome in the New Year on Newfoundland’s time zone, half an hour ahead of the rest of the continent.
During every stay, a Community Host will orient guests to this “salty Narnia,” sharing fresh perspectives, stories, and laughter. Join up with a lifelong Fogo Islander to learn how to build a boat; go fishing for cod as many generations have before; forage for wild plants and mushrooms with the kitchen team; hike coastal trails; or simply sit back and listen to the lilt of local music.
3-Night Minimum Stay
Reservations will be confirmed on payment of a 35% non-refundable deposit.
The remaining balance is due 45 calendar days prior to the scheduled arrival date. Cancellations made within 45 calendar days of arrival are 100% non-refundable.

Our 29 guest rooms were designed to carry forward the richness of outport traditions in concert with the very best contemporary design elements. The world outside our walls, the natural world, receives love, attention, and respect equal to that which we show our guests. Rates are per night, per room, and based on two persons per room. A two-night minimum applies (except three nights from June to September). We designed our pricing to be inclusive of a complete hospitality experience: rates are inclusive of all meals, a half-day Island Orientation with a Community Host, and most excursions. Any requests within our power to deliver will be met with a smile and without extra charge: laundry services, bicycles, snacks, extra toiletries, and general support and guidance during your trip are all on offer and included in your room rate.
Labrador Room - 1st Floor
Labrador Rooms are intimate nests for up to two persons. First floor Labrador rooms are close to the 400 million year-old rocks of the rugged and fierce Back Western Shore—a place to feel the echoes of time in the rocks, yet to be tangled up with “the now” in closeness to the public spaces; a place to feel the social nature of outport life.
All First Floor Labrador Rooms have ocean views, King-sized beds, and showers. There are 4 First Floor Labrador Rooms.
Labrador Room - 2nd Floor
Labrador Rooms are intimate nests for up to two persons. Second Floor Labrador Rooms rooms are higher up and a little more removed than their 1st floor cousins; these rooms have a seabird's perspective on the world; a perspective that quickens the imagination and provides the solitude to reflect and gather yourself.
All Second Floor Labrador Rooms have ocean views, King-sized beds, and showers. There are 4 Second Floor Labrador Rooms.
Labrador Room - 3rd Floor
Labrador Rooms are intimate nests for up to two persons. Third Floor Labrador Rooms are considered “architect's rooms” - places to experience the rooftop rock installations and architectural magic of this bold, contemporary building that was born of centuries-old traditions.
All Third Floor Labrador Rooms have ocean views, King-sized beds, showers, and wood-burning stoves. There are 5 Third Floor Labrador Rooms.
Newfoundland Room
These rooms are for two people and located throughout the 3rd and 4th floors. The 3rd floor reverie rooms allow guests to experience the horizon as an unbroken line; to get their feet up in our designed-just-for-us reading chairs for long lazy afternoons; on cool days with a wood fire burning and on warm days with the windows open to the fresh ocean air. These 3rd floor rooms have a bath, shower, and wood stove.
The soaring ceilings in the 4th floor “sky rooms” give a deep sense of oneness with the sky; these are places for up to two persons to pause and wonder at the unexpected behaviour of light where this powerful landscape meets an even more powerful seascape, at the very edge of the North Atlantic. 4th floor Newfoundland rooms have a shower and a wood stove.
Fogo Island Family Suite
Our Fogo Island Family Suites are 600 – 619 sq. ft. and perfect for families of up to 4. Each suite is as spectacular and varied as Fogo Island itself. Suites with an adjoining feeling, generous and flexible spirits that can also be configured with a sitting room, a second bedroom, or a workspace.
Both have a bath tub, walk-in shower, and wood stove. One has an extra washroom.
Fogo Island Family Loft Suite
Our Fogo Island Family Loft Suite is 835 sq. ft. and perfect for families of up to 5. This spectacular suite offers two-storey views of the North Atlantic ocean, two king-sized beds (which can be separated into singles), and a sitting area with a convertible sofabed.
This suite has a freestanding bath tub, walk-in shower, and wood stove.
Fogo Island Loft Suite
The 600 sq. ft. Fogo Island Loft Suite accommodates up to two persons. This spectacular suite offers two-storey views of the North Atlantic ocean, a king-sized bed in the loft area, and a sitting area.
This suite has a freestanding bath tub, walk-in shower, and wood stove.
Fogo Island Sunrise Suite
The 764 sq. ft. Fogo Island Sunrise Suite accommodates up to two persons. This large corner suite is a cantilevered retreat, hovering over the two-storey stilts and oriented to the east; a perfect viewing spot for the fishing boats in and out of Joe Batt’s Arm.
This suite has a free-standing tub, walk-in shower, and wood stove.
Fogo Island Sunset Suite
The 663 sq. ft. Fogo Island Sunset Suite accommodates up to two persons. This large corner suite is oriented to the west and offers direct views of Fogo Head and panoramic sunsets from your in-room soaker tub.
This suite has a free-standing tub, walk-in shower, and wood stove.
Flat Earth Suite
The Captain’s Quarters -- a sublime outport sanctuary, a distinctive two-story corner apartment with a commanding position to the North, East and South, a space like no other and suited for up to three persons. The suite has a a King-sized bed, shower, soaker tub, wood stove and extra washroom. There is 1 Flat Earth Suite. It is one-of-a-kind.

Fogo Island Inn Dining Room
At Fogo Island Inn, the culinary team creates exceptional gastronomic experiences for guests dining over breakfast, lunch, and supper in the 48-seat vaulted-ceiling dining room and adjacent lounge. The dining area offers unparalleled vistas through floor-to-ceiling windows of sunsets, storms, and the iceberg-littered Atlantic. The dining team also takes care of on- and off-site catering with creativity and thoughtfulness. All dietary preferences are honored.
The Shed
The shed is located a short walk from Fogo Island Inn, sitting lightly on the rocks of the foreshore and serving as an adjunct to the main building. Intended to encourage guests to explore the island, its traditions and history. Less formal than the Dining Room, the shed offers the opportunity for a more traditional boil-up style of meal, with story-telling and shared plates.
